Why Did Gas Prices Go Up This Week?
The 8-cent national weekly jump is driven by three factors:
- Iran/Hormuz tensions — Oil futures jumped on fears of Strait disruption. 20% of global oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz. Markets priced in a risk premium.
- Refinery maintenance season — Spring is when refineries switch from winter to summer fuel blends, temporarily reducing supply.
- Driving season approaching — Memorial Day demand increase is being priced in early by traders.
Will Gas Prices Go Down in 2025?
Most analysts expect gas prices to peak in late May / early June (summer driving season) then gradually fall. Key forecasts:
